to "I went to play my Ukulele", featuring Tub-up-ers
who made their Ukuleles at the Leicester Artisan Festival, The
Leicester Ukulele club, Children from Parklands Junior school,
and the Fosse singers community choir.
Make
your own Ukulele!
Make your own ukulele
from recyclable materials, learn how to play it and take part
in a live performance with The Utterly Butterly Ukulele project
(TUBUP).
No previous experience
required!
The ukuleles are made from an Utterly Butterly spread tub, fishing
line strings, a piece of wood with screw eyes for tuning pegs.
The instrument sounds very authentic, and is very playable.

The workshops can be “stand alone” for a day or
half day in for example a school or community event, or can
be part of a series of workshops in a geographical area over
a period of several days, where everybody comes together for
a massed Ukulele jam session and performance. In a school environment,
we can work with around 60 participants in a day, and make 60
ukuleles.
The self-contained
workshops can take place just about anywhere. We have worked in
libraries, businesses, schools, at community events, OAP drop
in centres, carnivals, parks, shopping centres, family organisations,
festivals and parties etc.
The workshops
have proved to be universally appealing to all age groups and
can work as either “drop in” or timetabled sessions.
There
are a mix of original and existing songs that participants have
the opportunity to learn, perform and sing.
The project
can work alongside:
· Sing Up
· Arts and Health initiatives
· KS2 national curriculum
· Community cohesion initiatives
· Family Learning (Learning Skills Council)
· Music in libraries
· Arts Award
· Extended schools
· Every child matters
· NI 11 participation in the arts
